VW Golf7 Bluemotion: 88mpg

“Volkswagen has confirmed that the Bluemotion version of the upcoming Mk7 VW Golf will achieve 85g/km CO2 and 88mpg from its 1.6 TDI motor when it goes on sale.

Standard versions of the 1.6 TDI Golf are likely to put out 99g/km CO2, but with the weight savings gained from the lighter body and an improved drag co-efficient of 0.274 (down 0.024 on the current version), the Golf will become the cleanest car in its class, bettering even the Toyota Prius.

The details were revealed at an advanced preview of the 2013 Volkswagen Golf ahead of its public debut at the Paris motor show.

Officials have also confirmed that there will definitely be a three-door model, although it’s likely that it will be launched after the five-door, which begins production in November and goes on sale before the end of the year.”
